On the inside of the covers are the initials "CM" drawn by a child in large block letters. I think CM may stand for Charles Milner (Uncle Charlie).

This inscription was from a book, The Marvelous Land of Oz, that Jack
London gave his daughters, Joan and Bess (Becky). The pages of the
book are missing and all I have is the covers (and the inscription).
